Life insurance health class calculator

Carriers price you by underwriting class, not by age alone. Enter what an underwriter would see and this estimates the class a Texas carrier is likely to offer — plus the class above and below it, because real files land in a range.

Estimate, not an offer. No calculator sees your labs, MIB record, prescription history, or physician notes — and those set your class.

The Texas underwriting guide publishes real quoted offers by class, including Table-rated pricing that carriers never advertise. Then price the coverage in the term ladder calculator, which opens pre-set to this age and class.

How this calculator works

Underwriters score a file in debits. Everyone starts at the top class and each finding — build outside the chart, treated hypertension, an A1c in the prediabetic range, a parent who died young — adds debits. Enough debits and you drop a class; a lot of debits and you land on a Table rating, which is priced as a percentage surcharge over Standard.

This tool reproduces that logic with published build charts and the class thresholds visible in the actual Texas offers documented in our underwriting guide. Some findings also apply a hard ceiling regardless of the total: a DUI within 12 months is a postponement at nearly every carrier no matter how healthy you otherwise are.

Where it stops

It cannot see labs, MIB or prescription history, or attending-physician notes, and it does not model carrier-specific niches — the spread between the most and least lenient carrier on the same file is often two full classes. That spread is exactly what an independent broker shops. Treat the output as the question to bring to a quote, not the answer.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is a life insurance health class calculator?
It reproduces the debit scoring underwriters use from published build charts and the class thresholds seen in real Texas offers, so it is usually within one class of the final decision. It cannot see labs, MIB or prescription history, or attending-physician notes, so treat it as the likely range rather than an offer.
What health class do most Texas applicants actually get?
Standard and Standard Plus are the most common outcomes. Preferred Plus typically requires a build inside the chart, no tobacco for five years, blood pressure and cholesterol controlled without borderline readings, a clean motor-vehicle record, and no early-onset cardiac or cancer history in a parent.
Does the calculator ask for personal information or a quote request?
No. Nothing is stored, no email is required, and no data is sent to a carrier. The calculation runs entirely in your browser.
Can a Table rating be improved later?
Often yes. Many carriers allow a reconsideration after 12 months of documented improvement — weight loss held steady, an A1c back under range, or a driving record aging out — and an independent broker can also shop the file to a carrier whose niche fits the specific condition.
